April Fools!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The news release from BMW&#8217;s MINI group sucked me in completely.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 359px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/images\/OB-SL167_mini_E_20120401094931.jpg?resize=359%2C239\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"239\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The all-new MINI Cooper Yachtsman. Not!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It announced that MINI was jumping into the crossover pool in a unique new way with the MINI Cooper amphibious Yachtsman. It was finally ready to deliver on the promises made lo those many years ago by the Amphicar. The news release proudly stated, &#8220;The new\u00a0 MINI Cooper Yachtsman is a corner-carving crustacean that promises\u00a0 go-kart-like handling and a sensational combination of amphibious and\u00a0 landphibious performance both on and off the water.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The first giveaway should have been the top speed on water. 61 knots claimed the release. Really?<\/p>\n<p>And then there was the\u00a0&#8220;extendable rooftop antenna comes with a \u2018get-you-home\u2019\u00a0 20-ft white sail (in case of emergency) which can be deployed for\u00a0 zero-emissions sailing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But the line that really snapped me back to reality was, &#8220;the MINI Cooper Yachtsman is priced at US $236,000 and comes with a\u00a0 fully incomprehensible warranty that includes 3-year no-cost moorage,\u00a0 annual dry-docking\u00a0and free barnacle removal, for the original captain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Any time you put the word &#8220;incomprehensible&#8221; in a news release, it&#8217;s a major spoof giveaway.\u00a0Congrats to the MINI marketing team for another dash of brilliance.
